Build It Green & Habinex FAQs – GreenPoint Rated

Questions? Answers

Why is GreenPoint Rated moving from Build It Green to Habinex?

Build It Green has shifted its focus from the nuts and bolts of building a better home to the community-scale context in which homebuilding takes place. The Build It Green board sought a new steward for the program that could provide operational stability for participants while invigorating it with a fresh perspective. After a thorough search, Habinex was chosen for its mission alignment and capacity to scale the program while keeping its core values intact.

Who is Habinex?

Habinex is a California-based benefit corporation focused on creating healthier, more performant, and resilient housing. The core team blends decades of real-estate development, construction, technology, and finance experience, bringing both field insight and data-driven tools to programs like GreenPoint Rated.

How does Habinex, being a California benefit corporation rather than a nonprofit, impact GPR?

In the short term, nothing changes. The program will continue to be operated as it was under BIG and our research indicates that federal and state programs that recognized GPR under BIG can continue to do so with the program under Habinex. Longer term, being housed at a for-profit benefit corporation will open GPR up to investment that was harder to access under a nonprofit, thus increasing the ability to fuel GPR's evolution.

What changes on Day 1?

Nothing—your log-ins, project data, rating procedures, software portal, and program manager (Alicia) all remain the same. You’ll simply see “Habinex” on future correspondence and invoices.

Will pricing or rater fees change?

No pricing changes are planned. Any future adjustments will follow industry-standard notice periods and will be shared well in advance for community feedback.

Do I need to sign a new Rater Participation Agreement?

Yes. A refreshed agreement, nearly identical to the previous Build It Green version, will be sent to your inbox in the coming days. Please review and e-sign to keep your credentials active.

Will Build It Green still be involved?

Yes. BIG will serve as a collaborative partner on select initiatives—particularly policy research and regenerative-building pilots—while Habinex manages day-to-day operations.

What are Habinex’s plans for the software platform?

The near-term focus is on usability and stability, as well as mobile-friendly checklists. Larger feature upgrades will be shared with the community before implementation.

How will Habinex support raters during code-cycle or policy changes?

Habinex will host webinars and provide guidance prior to every major code update. Keep an eye on your inbox for details about upcoming open-office hours and other important updates.

Is Habinex changing program requirements or scoring?

No immediate changes are planned. Any future refinements will go through the standard stakeholder review process.

Will my existing projects in progress be affected?

All active and pending projects will proceed under the same rules and timelines agreed upon at registration—no action required on your end.

How will invoices and payments be handled?

Invoices will be issued by Habinex. The overall process for submitting and handling payments will remain the same for now.

What is Habinex’s long-term vision for GPR?

Habinex’s long-term vision is to keep GPR forward-looking and relevant—expanding its national reach, integrating embodied-carbon and circular-economy metrics, and deepening its focus on healthy, inclusive, high-performing, and resilient living environments. The goal is to make green buildings feel more intuitive and effortless, supported by clear tools and certifications. We’re also exploring ways to broaden access and applicability across building types and users—without sacrificing rigor. Every upgrade will be shaped by on-the-ground rater feedback and real-world project realities.
